Planetarium Field Trip Monday

Greetings all!

We were able to schedule a last-minute field trip to the UMD Planetarium for Monday (January 26th). We are set to arrive at 10:00am, and depending on the weather we will walk. It's a fun walk for the kids, but I checked the weather and it looks like it might be a little gusty; if that's the case we would hop on the city bus, but either way, make sure you pack along all the appropriate outdoor clothing. Also, don't forget to sign the permission sheet which is right next to the sign-in sheet at the welcome table. And of course, parents are welcome, so please sign-up to join us! Oh, and did I mention, the cost is FREE?

See you Monday,

Ms. Jakki

Wacky Week

Hi there!

Wacky week was a BLAST! We teachers seriously have the best job in the world over here at CCP! These kids are so fun!! We had a fantastic beach day on Monday. How fun to get in the summer-spirit during such a winter cold-spell! The children (AND teachers) definitely appreciated hangin' loose a little bit. Tuesday was hat day and it was so fun to see all the awesome hats the kids brought in. Wednesday was dress as a character day, and boy was it fun to see these kids in their costumes!! Thursday we got to see some WILD hair dos for Wacky Hair Day, and then Friday we got to do - what in my opinion should be done every Friday- have pajama day! I captured a few fun moments on my camera to share with you all. Check it out:

See ya soon!!

Book Drive

Hey guys!!
As some of you already know, Amy Broadmoore (Ian's mom) is the founder of International Book Giving Day - February 14th. Amy is a lover of books. She is very involved in children's literature (she's the writer of a super cool blog called Delightful Children's Books), and she began International Book Giving Day as a day dedicated to getting new, used and borrowed books in the hands of as many children as possible. Over the past two years, Amy has collected over 1400 children's books for both Nettleton and Laura McArthur Elementary School students and their siblings. Here's a cute picture of her son, Ian full immersed in the books!:

Last year on February 14th, author Chris Monroe (writer of Monkey with a Tool Belt and Sneaky Sheep, plus more...) read aloud to Laura MacArthur students and helped hand out books. Here's a look:

So as you can see, Amy is doing a lot of awesomeness for the children in the twin ports! She collects book donations from many sites, one of them being our preschool! In past years, Congdon Creek Preschool families have donated many books to this wonderful drive. This year, Amy is collecting books for Piedmont Elementary School students. We have a box set up for her in the sign-in area of preschool; you can donate your new or used books from January 7th through February 7th. We thank you so much for all your support and donations for this awesome cause!

Warmest regards,

Ms. Jakki

January/February News

Hello All,

I hope everyone had a wonderful break home with your families! I can't believe it's January already! On that note, the teachers at CCP have a lot of fun activities planned for the month! January will have a focus on winter and outer space. For the first part of the month, we will study winter animals and winter elements. During the end of January we will study outer space by exploring our galaxy, studying astronauts, and discovering constellations.

We will be doing a unit called “Creative Me” during the month of February. For this unit we will be focusing on the arts, and we will explore the many ways we express our creativity. This (along with all units) is a month where we’d especially love to see and hear from you! Many of the CCP parents & friends are talented in this area; so if you have something you’d be able to contribute to the classes (music, different types of art, yoga, composition, etc.) we would love to have you visit us.

We will focus on the letter sounds and recognition of M-N in January, and O-R in February.

Dates to Note:

Monday, Jan. 12th-16th: Wacky Week

Friday, February 13th: Valentine’s Tea Party 10:00am

Monday, February 16th: No School – President’s Day

Also, some of you will notice that Duluth Public Schools are closed January 16th and January 19th. CCP is scheduled to be OPEN those days. Another thing to mark on your calendar is the fact that Duluth public schools are Closed February 16th-20th, and CCP will be CLOSED on Monday, February 16th, and OPEN the rest of the week. Please let the teachers know ASAP if you plan on being gone that week so we can schedule the teachers accordingly.
We are in the process of scheduling some field trips and will keep you posted on upcoming dates!!

Warmest Regards,

Ms. Jakki
