September Pictures

Greetings, Everyone!

With September coming to a close I thought I'd share some photos of all the things the children have been up to during our first month of school! Our theme this month has been "All About Me" so the children have been exploring all the ways they are unique, what makes them special, and how they have developed from a small baby into a big preschooler.

Here are some kids in the blue group measuring how tall they are:

As always we get to take breaks from our usual learning time for some V.I.P. fun! Our first V.I.P. of the year was Ashton's, and he brought in a pinata for all the kids to play with:

This past month we also got to have a fun visit from our friends at the Whole Foods Co-op. They gave us a presentation on healthy eating and brought some fun food for us to try such as purple beans, rambutans, blackberries, and squash.

Here's Ryker and his purple bean:
 Sweet, little Krista trying new foods:
 Thumbs up for purple beans!
 Davey likes his bean!:

And of course we always have enough play time for these girls to have an opportunity to put on a little show...
 ...and for these girls to hitch a ride!:

Stay tuned for October updates and news!

Lunches **Please Read**

Hello everyone!

Here's a quick note about preschool lunches. Licensing for CCP requires that all children be served a lunch that consists of protein, dairy, grains, and fruit and vegetables. With everyone bringing their lunch from home, it's important you remember to include each item when packing your child's lunch. If you are in a bind when packing a lunch and need a certain item, please let one of the teachers know so we can provide what you need.

Also something we've noticed about lunches in the past is portion control. The children have two substantial snacks during the day, therefore lunches don't need to be large. Preschool age children's serving sizes run as follows:
Grain = One slice of bread/half cup grains
Fruit = Half of a piece of fruit/ 1/4 cup of fruit
Protein = One egg/1 tablespoon of peanut butter/ one ounce of meat/ 1/3 cup beans
Dairy = 3/4 cup
Vegetables = 1/3 cup
Fat = 1 teaspoon

And as far as treats go, children who are 3-5 years old are recommended to only have 2-3 servings of dessert per week

So with that, here are some awesome websites that I love to use for ideas when packing lunches for my own kids.

First Week of School Notes/September Calendar

What a great first week of preschool! This past week was a major adjusting period for many families. Sending your child back to preschool (especially for the first time), can be quite emotional. Some of the children did get a little upset when parents left, but rest assure that we comfort them, and for most, the tears literally stop within minutes, some even seconds. Usually it takes a couple of weeks for everyone to get into the rhythm of the school year and it won't be long until all the children understand that mom or dad always come back and pretty soon they will be pushing you out the door!
 (If you are finding it hard to have a crying face be the last you see of your child until the end of the day, let us know and either myself (Miss Jakki), Patti, or Elicia, would be happy to text you some pictures of your smiling child throughout the day.)

Please Note:

- Tuition for the month is due by the 7th of the month.
- PICTURE DAY will be Thursday, October 3rd with group shots beginning at 11:30am. Pictures are completely optional and will be taken by Patti's daughter, Amanda (owner of JaneCane Photography. She is A-MAZ-ing!See for yourself: janecanephotography.com). A handout covering packages and pricing will be sent out shortly.

Goals for the Week:

- Last week we focused on the schedule, routines, meeting friends, and following directions for small and large group time. This week we will continue with some of the same goals.

And finally this is just a shout out to anyone who maybe deals with spare auto parts: We are looking for some spare tires to put in our playground. If you have access to any, please call Patti!!

I will leave you now with some sweet faces that were captured this past week:

Leighton, Ashton, and Sam at the sensory table.

Cute little Makena using the scale.

Aizley, Abigail, and Maxwell.

Warmest regards,
