End of November Pics

Hello everyone,

I hope you're enjoying a relaxing and fun Thanksgiving break with your families. I wanted to quick share some pictures of all the fun the preschoolers have been having lately!

We were so lucky to have the Whole Foods Co-op visit us last week! Jill and Shannon from the Co-op brought some fun and unique foods and took the children on a "food exploring journey"! (<- How fun does that sound? I think dinner at my house has a new term!) Check it out!!

We ended our Community Helpers unit with a visit from one of our very own CCP parents; Ryan Morris. Officer Morris works for the Duluth Police Department, so he paid the preschoolers a visit where he showed them his uniform, talked about vehicle safety, and then of course showed us his awesome police car!

And then of course we spend the remainder of the week celebrating Thanksgiving. This is where I love to watch the preschoolers grow: before we learned all about the 1st Thanksgiving and the true meaning of the holiday, when asking a preschooler what they were thankful for, they would have said some like "candy" or "the blue room". After spending a few days learning about the Mayflower, the Native American people, and the religious oppression over in Europe, the preschoolers answers changed to being thankful for things like "having food" or "getting to live in a nice home" or "being able to choose things". What a beautiful concept for these little ones to grasp!

Enjoy the rest of the Thanksgiving break and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday!!

Sleep Study

Hello Everyone!!

This week we have a student from Holy Rosary (& former CCP preschooler), Justin Martin, coming to do a study on the children's rest-time habits for her science class. Her observing the preschoolers requires your permission, so we have been asking the parents to sign their name in the "comments" portion of the sign-in page. If your child does rest time at school, please make sure you sign your name next time you're at the sign-in table. And if you don't want your child to be observed, no worries! We can separate them from the study. I can't wait for Justine to share her results with us when she's completed her assignment, but until then we thank you for participating!!

Sammy's Pizza Field Trip Pics

 Greetings Families!

Our Community Helpers Unit is going strong and the kids have been learning so much! We've been exploring the many ways people work and live in our community. Last week we took the preschoolers on an awesome field trip to tour our own community in Lake Side. We took the DTA out east, and our first stop was Sammy's Pizza. Check it out:

Here is Phil the pizza man, explaining to the children the steps involved in preparing a pizza. First you roll out the dough with this handy little dough-pressing machine:

...then you give the pizza a perfectly, pinched crust:

...then you pour on Sammy's famous sauce:

...and the you bake it in the enormous oven, and then voila! The kids were even lucky enough to taste their final product! Yum!

After we were finished at Sammy's Pizza, we took the kids on a window-tour of the rest of the Lake Side community. Here they are peeking in the coffee shop:

And here they stopped to watch the Barber cut a man's hair:

And then of course, with most of our field trips, one of the highlights is getting to ride the city bus:

Don't worry, if your child missed out on the field trip, we have more Community Helper activities planned! This upcoming Thursday we will be visited by our local Whole Foods Co-op, and also next week we will have a special visitor from our very own CCP family police officer, Officer Morris come to see us on Wednesday.

A big thanks to all those who've contributed to our fun Community Helpers unit!!!

Warmest Regards,

Ms. Jakki

Fall Field Trips

Hello All,

Our Halloween Party was a huge success! We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who came together to help put it on this year! How awesome for us to be part of such a giving community! And speaking of community, our new theme for the month of November is Community Helpers. We kicked off the unit with an awesome field trip to Super One Foods and the Great Harvest Bread Company. It was so cool for the kids to check out the behind the scenes functions of both the super market and the bread company, and they got a wonderful hands-on learning experience with real community workers! I was able to snap a couple photos at the grocery store, but not at the bread company (as I was up to my elbows in bread dough and preschoolers :) ).

 Check it out:

Our tour guide, Mike, showed the kids where the food in the bakery department comes from! After he fed the kids some fresh-baked cookies, he marked everyone with an "old-fashioned" price tag:

Here is Mike again showing the kids the grocery store stock room. We got to see where they store all the produce, dairy, dry goods, and we even got to check out the awesome floor cleaner:

We have two more field trips coming up: next Wednesday, November 12th, we are taking the city bus to the lakeside Sammy's Pizza where we will get to meet more community workers. Parent volunteers are still needed for this trip, so please sign-up with a teacher if you are able! Also, the Whole Foods Co-op will be visiting our school on Thursday, November 20th to give the students a presentation on locally grown food; it should be a fantastic time!

That's all for now....so please don't hesitate to call or email with any questions or concerns!

Warmest regards,
Ms. Jakki
